Po velmi úspěšném národním kole Eurovision Song Contest 2012 v Německu – Unser Star für Baku, vybrala veřejnoprávní stanice Das Erste (ARD) společně s komerční televizí PRO 7, reprezentanta na mezinárodní soutěži Eurovize, která se koná poslední květnový týden v ázerbájdžánském Baku. Reprezentovat Německo bude Roman Lob s písní „Standing Still“.

Jedenadvacetiletý Roman Lob pochází z Neuwiedu, který je na západě Německa, poblíž Kolína nad Rýnem. Z hudby miluje zpěv, ale má rád i hru na klavír a bicí. Mezi jeho velké koníčky však patří i adrenalinové sporty, zejména pak jízda na horském kole v terénu.
Do podvědomí diváků se Roman dostal svou účastí v talentové show Německo hledá SuperStar, kde se zúčastnil čtvrté série, když bud bylo šestnáct let, to se psal rok 2007. Ze soutěže však musel odstoupit ze zdravotních důvodů.
O svůj hudební návrat se postaral svou účastí v další talentové show, která se jmenovala Unser Star für Baku. Tato soutěž byla současně i německým národním kolem na mezinárodní Eurovision Song Contest 2012.
Kromě prvního selekčního večera byl Roman černým koněm soutěže a jeho vítězství bylo více méně očekávané. Do ázerbájdžánského Baku odjíždí soutěžit s písní „Standing Still“, kterou má autorsky na svědomí jeden z nejúspěšnějších hudebníků, Jamie Cullum.
Německo, jako člen Velké pětky, je automaticky kvalifikované do finálové části Eurovision Song Contest. Ta se koná v sobotu 26.05.2012 od 21:00 hod. I když je Německo přímou cestou ve finále, mají obyvatelé této země hlasovací právo i ve druhém semifinálovém kole (24.05.2012).
